Pool sensors send alert into home

As we prepare to open our pools in anticipation of hot temperatures, we should plan safety measures as well. Jumping into the season means uncovering the pool. And an uncovered pool, even when it is guarded by a fence, is ripe for accidents.

The Voice Alert system from Cross Point Industries adds another layer of safety. Wireless motion and heat sensors mounted by the pool door or gate will alert you to any activity with a custom voice message inside the house.

"We have one of the very few devices that will alert a parent before a child gets in the water," said Stefan West, spokesman for the Voice Alert system. "It doesn't sound by the pool, but sends a message into the house."

The receiver plugs into a standard outlet and uses a 9-volt backup battery in case of an electrical outage. It can record up to three messages.

"This thing is easy to install," said West, adding that it takes about five minutes to set up. The sensors, which will signal a receiver up to 300 feet away through walls, and 1,000 feet away in open space, are mounted by entryways or directly over the pool. When triggered, the sensors will sound off and send a message that will be repeated until it is turned off inside the house.

"The sensors use temperature technology to reduce false alarms," West said. The Voice Alert system is available through Cross Point Industries. Details: 1-(760)- 633-3737 or www.voicealert.com.

Prices start at $149.95 for a receiver and one sensor. A system with two sensors is $199.95; add $69.95 for each additional sensor.
